NTA Official Press Release - 5 Key Decisions

The NTA official notice for NEET UG 2026 lists five decisions that every student needs to know:

  1. The NEET UG 2026 exam of May 3 is cancelled with full approval of the Government of India.
  2. A NEET 2026 re-exam will be conducted. Dates will be notified separately through official channels.
  3. The case was referred to the CBI by the Government of India for a detailed probe into the allegations.
  4. There is no need to register again. Your existing registration, candidature, and exam centre from the May 2026 cycle are all automatically carried forward.
  5. The NEET 2026 exam fee already paid will be fully refunded. The re-exam will be paid for from the NTA internal resources.

How the NEET 2026 Paper Leak Happened

During its investigation, the Rajasthan Police Special Operations Group (SOG) exposed the alleged leak. Here is what the investigation found:

  • A guess paper of approximately 410 questions was circulating among students before the exam.
  • It was reportedly sent through WhatsApp groups 42 hours before the May 3 exam.
  • Up to 140 questions allegedly matched the actual exam, including all 90 Biology and all 45 Chemistry questions.
  • The suspected source is a printing facility in Jaipur.
  • The leak reportedly occurred at 6 different places in Sikar, Jhunjhunu, Nagaur, Dehradun, Jaipur, and Kerala.
  • A total of 15 people have been taken into custody and questioned.

It is the NEET UG WhatsApp leak and the alleged match between the guess paper and the actual exam that caused the NTA and government to cancel the exam.

CBI Probe - Scope and What It Means for Students

The Government of India on May 12, 2026, sent the NEET 2026 issue to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The CBI will also determine if there was an organized paper leak network that caused the leak and from where the papers were taken from the source to the students.

The NTA has pledged to submit all records, data and technical documentation for an investigation led by the CBI against NEET 2026.

For students, this is important to understand: the CBI probe is a separate process. It will not delay the re-exam announcement. The re-exam decision has already been made.
